Unemployment Tax Delay Debated in House

02.12.10

The Indiana House Labor and Employment Committee is taking up a Senate bill that would delay until 2011 new payroll taxes on employers to help restore the state's bankrupt unemployment insurance fund. WIBC reports proponents of the bill, including the Indiana Department of Labor's Josh Richardson, testified that without the delay, businesses could be forced to cut more jobs. Keith Neargardner of the United Auto Workers says the plan is too little, too late.
